August 13, 2012 - Fun Festival
The fun festival was held at the Farmers Market on Monday, August 13, 2012. The weather was terrific, the food was terrific, the music was terrific, the dancers were terrific, the turnout was terrific, the games were fun and the cotton candy was terrific. "All in all it was one of the best fun festivals we've had," said FCRMA Managing Director Dorothy Cundiff.
There were 24 flat footing contestants. Fifteen of those went home with prize money. All went home with coupons for free fries from the local McDonalds. Contestants ranged in age from 3 year old Aimslee Haigler to 76 year old Wilbur Morgan. The grand prize of $250.00 was split between Steven Bousman and Glenn Wimmer when they were still tied after a dance-off.
The Friday Night Old Time Band provided terrific dancing music and Leon Griffin handled the Emcee duties.
Local people with dance experience served as judges for the flat footing contests. Thank you to Glenn Carter, Sheila Brown and Marie Bousman for giving of your time and serving as judges. Also a big thank you to our volunteers who handled the games, the concessions and ran errands. Last but not least a big thank you to the crew who hauled lots of our supplies and laid out the dance floor and put it back away and cleaned up after the festival, you know who you are, thanks.
Again we want to recognize the sponsors for this year's Fun Festival: Cundiff Trucking, Daniel's Auto Glass, Allstate Insurance - Don Lazenby Agent, Empire Foods, Jim Jefferson, McCall Insurance Agency, Kingery Six, Sleep Safe Beds, LLC, Shively Electrical Company, KC Farms, Flora Funeral Service, Inc., Martinsville Dupont Credit Union, Adams Construction Company, Rocky Dale Quarries, Professional Tax Service, Flowers Bakery, and McDonalds of Rocky Mount. Fun Festival 2009
"And a good time was had by all.." would have been a good theme for the 2009 Fun Festival/Hot Dog Festival. Arrington Enterprises Incorporated and Flowers Bakery help sponsor free hot dogs to the first 150 people to buy a drink. Other sponsors of the night's events were: Franklin News Post, Professional Therapies, Franklin Finance, J & J Fashions, Flowers by Jones, Central Oil Company, Jamison Electric, Cox's Fashions, Dale Angle, Barney Bay Dairy, J & R Garage, McCall Insurance, Sleep Safe Beds, Rocky Mount Supply, Layman's Contracting, Main Street Tax and Mortgage Service, Attorney Tonya Janney, Hometown Ice, and 619 Minute Market. Woodmen of the World, agent Steve Bishop, provided a blow up slide for an additional children's activity.

2010 Fun Festival
The 2010 Fun Festival was held on June 21, 2010. While tempatures were high, so was the enthusiasm of the attendees. Dancing went on just like the participants were in an air conditioned building.
Flat footing contestants kicked up their heels and had a good time.
When the time came to cool down volunteers provided a way to do that, too.
Plenty of children's games and activities provided a fun time for all.
FCRMA wishes to thank the volunteers, sponsors, dancers and band for all of their support. Major sponsors were Sleepsafe Beds, Franklin News Post, Flowers Bakery, 619 Minute Market. Also, Professional Therapies Inc provided several volunteers without which the Festival could not have happened. The kitchen was manned by volunteers from Gladehill School Cafeteria. Other volunteers were from Flowers By Jones and several family members of FCRMA. Thanks to all. Photos supplied by and used by permission of the Franklin News Post.
